The progression of time represented by imagery of a family walking together from the Pennsylvania Ave. of the past, towards the present. Above the buildings, the South African Protea flower, a symbol of hope and perseverance. The Gladiolas flower (named after the Gladiators of Ancient Rome) a symbol of strength and integrity; alongside Butterfly milkweed, blue cardinal and cinnamon fern, plants native to Maryland.
