Dedicated to the life, work and memory of Springfield, MA community activist Milagros “Terry” Rodriguez. A native of Brooklyn NY, Terry relocated to Springfield over 30 years ago, where she dedicated her life to family and public service. Her work encompassed many roles over the years, including HIV/AIDS & substance abuse counselor, advocate for the homeless, park commissioner, and athletic coach. Commissioned by CommonWealth Murals.

The composition features portraits of community members while exploring the ”continuum” of ethnic/cultural movement through time. Baltimore Office of Sustainability’s outdoor community art program, Lots Alive supports the creation of outdoor artworks sited on vacant lots along Park Heights Ave. Designed in partnership with the Baltimore Green Network, Lots Alive aims to breathe life into underutilized vacant spaces through creative interventions.

Commissioned by the East Baltimore Development Corp. & John Hopkins University to brighten the neighborhood of Eager Park. The mural features teachers, students, families and a local veteran of Eager Park. The center panel of the background is inspired by the classic Baltimore Marble “stoop”. The outer panels are patterns based on the circle of life symbol, and the Hela Cells of Henrietta Lacks who was once a resident of Eager Park. Each flower bordering the mural has a symbolic meaning expressed through floriography, and inspired by the victory gardens and “arrabber” tradition of old Eager Park.

Through a partnership with the Baltimore’s Black Arts District and YouthWorks, a group of apprentices ages 14-18, were lead through the process of designing & installing a large scale exterior mural. The artwork commemorates YouthWorks 50th anniversary celebration, unveiled August 2023 by Baltimore City Mayor Brandon Scott and the community. Over the summer, our youth worked together to bring the mural project to life and learned new skills in design, painting, materials knowledge, community & press engagement, social media management and administrative logistics.

Painted with the assistance of 10 apprentices ages 14-18 from Baltimore YouthWorks “Art @ Work” summer employment program coordinated by Jubilee Arts Center.
Sandtown/Penn North (Historic Pennsylvania Ave.) was the neighborhood at the center of protest and unrest, following the death of Freddie Gray. The design was inspired by ideas, values and the community’s hopes for the future, collected through interviewing Sandtown residents during neighborhood canvassing.
On the left, a portrait of Jaila, one of our apprentices, and a Sandtown resident. She is holding a daffodil, one of the first flowers to bloom in the spring, and a symbol of rebirth. The progression of time represented by imagery of a family walking together from the Pennsylvania Ave. of the past, towards the present. Above the buildings, the South African Protea flower, a symbol of hope and perseverance. The Gladiolas flower (named after the Gladiators of Ancient Rome) a symbol of strength and integrity; alongside Butterfly milkweed, blue cardinal and cinnamon fern, plants native to Maryland.

Commissioned by the LifeStraw company in partnership with Jubilee Arts. The mural design features a youth surrounded by supportive community in the form of hands pouring water (the source of life) from Calabash, a gourd used by cultures around the world to make pottery. A garden of flowers (Dahlia, Phylox, Lupinus, and White Orchid) symbolize safety, love, community and encouraging imagination.
